The Cathedral of Learning is the iconic landmark of the University of Pittsburgh. The Gothic Revival skyscraper was commissioned in 1921 and is a landmark listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Lovingly referred to as “Cathy”, it stands at 535- feet-tall, the second-tallest educational building in the world. In addition to its magnificent four-story Commons Room at ground level, the 42-story Cathedral houses classrooms (including the internationally renowned Nationality Classrooms) academic and administrative offices, libraries, computer labs, a theater and a food court.

Alumni Hall is home to the Pitt Alumni Association, the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid, a 270-seat auditorium/lecture hall, and the 500-seat Connolly Ballroom, among other offices and facilities. The building’s first floor hosts the Legacy Gallery, a permanent exhibit featuring two unique touch-screen interactive kiosks. Visitors can use the kiosks to explore the achievements of alumni, faculty and students through video, audio, archival photos and text.

Constructed in 1923 to house a private social club, the building was purchased in 2005 by Pitt. Following an extensive renovation, it was reopened as Pitt’s University Club in 2009. Whether for a meeting or a special event, the University Club is the perfect venue to create unforgettable memories. The University Club is also home to a cafe, fitness center, College Room and Fraternity Grille, open and available to the campus community.

The Assembly, located at 5051 Centre Avenue, is a historic building that once housed a Ford Motor Company assembly plant. In 2022, the building opened its doors for its next life as a world-class biomedical research hub, leased in-part by the University of Pittsburgh. The Assembly includes new state-of-the-art lab spaces for researchers, a variety of conference rooms, a 250+ seat auditorium and galleries throughout to highlight the building’s rich heritage.
